Each control panel is designed to automatically maintain the required air volume in the surge vessel. The actual level in the vessel is determined either by float actuator switches or capacitance probes. If the volume alters from normal either air is added by starting the compressor, or it is released through a relief valve in order to change the fluid level as necessary.

Panel lamps provide indication of liquid level, compressor running status etc. Abnormal conditions are similarly indicated by panel lamps e.g. high level alarm (HLA), low level alarm (LLA), compressor fail. Volt free contacts for alarm conditions are available for telemetry as standard.

Operation is normally under automatic control but provision is made for manual override. Standard control system voltages are 110v AC or 240v DC, compressor motors are normally 400v 3ph 50Hz.
